Palmers are proud to be a family run independent department store with over 172 years of trading experience as well as a solid reputation for quality, excellent customer service and great value. 

As an independent store offering quality and value whilst still making a profit could be difficult; to ensure we are always offering the best products at the best prices we became members of the Association of Independent Stores (AIS).  Formed over 30 years ago AIS are a buying group that have grown and evolved with its members and with the fast-changing retail environment.  Now representing over 600 retailers throughout the country, AIS have enabled stores to compete with the national chains while giving the kind of service that only an independent business can offer.  Palmers now benefits from the level of buying power and services normally enjoyed by big high street chains with no loss of independence.  As well as providing access to all sorts of major brands, the group's in-house team of experienced selectors source exclusive products and develop own brands to strengthen the independent retailer's point of difference in the high street.  AIS are committed to the concept of successful independent retailing and consistently support the benefits of individuality and entrepreneurship which the independent sector offers.

One attribute that has always set Palmers apart from the rest of the high street is the exceptional service that is offered to customers.  Customer service is ingrained into the company culture from top to bottom. Bruce Sturrock, Palmers Chairman, explains:

"Good service is very important to us, it is our point of difference and we work hard to ensure the high level is maintained.  We are lucky to have excellent staff who offer great service with a smile and are willing to go that extra mile to satisfy our customers demands." 

To achieve this celebrated customer service a great deal of emphasis is placed on staff training.  New members are advised of the level of service expected at induction training and all staff attend a customer service course every year.  The services of a mystery shopper company are also used to come into the store monthly to ensure the high standard is being upheld.

This reputation is also maintained through our websites - when you order from Palmers you can be sure that you will get a response directly, either by phone or email depending on what you have specified, to let you know that your order has been received.  You will also be contacted as soon as we have dispatched your order - so you know when to expect the delivery.  Even after your order has been received Palmers are happy to help with any further queries or if you are not happy with your purchase.
